News: Swan Gliding
Thursday, January 13, 2011
Some time ago, here on the GUD Magazine blog, I described the process of magazine publication as like the proverbial swimming swan: not a lot to see on the surface but much going on frantically underneath.
The writers, artists, poets, and non-fiction writers send in their work, and we consider it. Perhaps sooner, perhaps later, they hear whether we want or don't want it.
Long silences ensue. A contract can arrive, months after it was expected. Maybe there'll be an email clarifying some detail or other.
If anyone on staff has time, the GUD blog might be updated. An occasional review might appear.
Apart from that, very little. If you dropped by the website on a regular basis, you'd swear there's nothing happening at all.
So, what is going on with GUD these days? Are we paddling or sinking?
Paddling. Definitely paddling. With all our paddles.
We're reading slush for Issue 8, the 'bad decisions' issue. We're copy-editing Issue 7. We're creating e-versions of the magazine for distribution on Fictionwise, Amazon Kindle, Horrormall, iBooks, and other places. We're reading review books.
We're preparing for a huge revamp of our contributor pages.
Paddle, paddle, paddle. Rest.
Soon, we'll have something to show for all that work. Gorgeous Issue 7. Worth the wait.
