Shweta Narayan has lived in six countries on three continents, and done rather a lot of bridging in the process. Her fiction and poetry tend to do the same, but this is the first time she's really poked at it so directly. Shweta's work has appeared in Strange Horizons, Goblin Fruit, and the Beastly Bride anthology. She was the Octavia Butler Memorial Scholarship recipient at the Clarion workshop in 2007. While I found the cover off-putting for a handful of reasons, once inside I was caught in the flow of the narrative. Roberts realizes her players well, showing multiple sides to mythic characters, and the details she puts into this historical re-imagining of "The Epic of Gilgamesh" really bring the story to life.
